Domain Company Reports Data Breach

A leading Internet domain registration company is reporting a large data breach that may have increased the identity theft risk for thousands of their customers.
An announcement on the Network Solutions website says that the company had detected and removed an unauthorized code on some affiliated servers, and that the code had apparently been used to transfer certain data from 4,343 different merchant websites.
The company reported that "the code may have captured transaction data from approximately 573,928 cardholders for certain periods this spring." All of the hacking activities were said to have taken place between March 12 and June 8 of this year.
Despite the breach, Network Solutions indicated that it has no reason to believe that any credit card information has been misused at this point. The firm also said that consumers won't be held liable for fraudulent transactions stemming from this incident if they're reported in a timely fashion.
While the incident hasn't apparently resulted in any known cases of identity theft or other fraud at this point, it serves as a reminder to consumers about the importance of carefully checking their credit card statements each month.
